2019 Chairman's Message

My, how time flies.

It seems like just yesterday we were saying goodbye to last year’s Festival and now here we are again, opening our 42nd annual and 2019 First Town Days Festival. Maybe it's because our wonderful family of volunteers not only enjoys bringing this great event to our community, but also because we are planning throughout the entire year how we can make the next one even better than the last.

The old adage of “if it ain't broke, don't fix it”, rings true as anything for the First Town Days Festival but a little tweak now and then can be a good thing too. This year is no exception. We still have all of the favorites for Family Day such as Frog Jumping, Turtle Races, and the Fishing Derby. There's lots of great musical entertainment each night, fun contests and amazing food. All the things we look forward to each summer.

In addition to all of that fun, this year we are also adding a Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull (maybe even a couple of adults will be up to the challenge), we're upping our game from pie eating to donuts, and adding some great high energy Country Music to our entertainment lineup. You might even notice a few new food options on our Midway this year. Fan Favorite LaFlavour will also be returning after a year off to headline our Saturday night show leading up to the City of New Philadelphia Fireworks display.

Something else we do each year that is an absolute First Town Days tradition, is our commemorative plate auction and sale which helps support the many good things the First Town Days Festival Committee contributes to financially as part of our mission in putting on the festival. The plate is something we do as a fundraiser to support scholarships and park projects but it is also to honor and recognize deserving organizations, events or individuals that give of themselves to our community.

This year we have chosen to honor those men and women who do not receive nearly the credit or thanks they deserve for all they do in protecting lives and property day in and day out throughout Tuscarawas County. I am referring of course to our First Responders. We will be honoring them not only with this year's plate but also through a number of fun activities that will include members of our local Sheriff's Department, Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Services. They will be represented as Parade Marshals in our Friday night Grand Parade, there will be a touch-a-truck event with the Departments on Family Day, and some fun competitions on Saturday between these groups for bragging rights. No matter how you slice it, we are expecting their participation and this year’s festival to be a whole lot of fun. We hope you will agree and look forward to having you join this Fourth of July Holiday Celebration.

As President of the First Town Days Festival Committee, I also want to ask you to join me in offering a special thank you to all of our great supporters, advertisers, and event sponsors who through their generous contributions allow us to bring this great festival to Tuscora Park, New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County and the surrounding area for the enjoyment of all. We are grateful to them and to each and every one of you for coming out and supporting this 2019 First Town Days Festival. Our goal is to continue the traditions associated with First Town Days and to also see it continue to grow and to share the fun and excitement with this great Community where the 4th of July Holiday equals red-white-and-blue, picnics, family, fireworks, and of course, First Town Days.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our 42nd season and hope you will enjoy your time at the festival. Be safe, be blessed, and thank you again for coming.

Sincerely,

Joe Croft
First Town Days Festival Committee President
