My name is Caitlin Cole and I am your 2018 First Town Days queen. I am 18 years old and recently graduated from Indian Valley high school.
Throughout my senior year I got to experience one of the greatest memories I will cherish forever. Representing New Philadelphia’s largest festival. I have had the opportunity and pleasure of attending numerous festivals all over Ohio this year. I got to travel to so many unique towns and communities I honestly didn’t even knew existed, but fell in love with each one. I hope to be able to visit them again someday. As I attended these festivals I got to share with everyone how incredible and fascinating my festival is and the town it’s located in.
For instance did you know our main symbol of First Town Days is a 1928 vintage Herschell-Spillman antique carousel that has been operating at Tuscora Park since 1941? I’m lucky to come from such a historic town.
Throughout the past year I have had so many people supporting me. I would first like to start off thanking the VFW Post 1445 for graciously giving me a scholarship of $1,750. Thanks to them not only did I get to spend the year doing something I loved, I also get support towards my college education. Next, I would like to thank my dad and mom. You both have been by my side since day one. Thank you for getting up with me super early in the morning when I’m usually in a full face of makeup and gown by 7 am. Always driving everywhere I went, to watch me ride in parades even though you didn’t need to. You have been my main support throughout this journey and I can’t thank you enough for that.
Now to my wonderful Queen Adviser, Theresa Moran. I am so lucky to have met you. You have been a huge influence on my life. Theresa is the reason we get to travel as far as we do, she is the one who drives us from festival to festival in her convertible. She helped expand my music taste by always jamming out to some Rock n’ Roll music on the way. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my first attendant, Jaide Cox. When we became queens, her and I went to school, cheered, and worked together. We even have the same bright yellow phone as each other. If you can’t tell we’re very much alike and good friends. So the fact we got to spend the year doing something new and out of our comfort zone with each other was amazing. We always had the best time with each other which made this experience even better. Thank you for being there for me on my worst and best days. I will miss you.
Finally, I want to thank my sponsors. First of all, I would like to thank the First Town Days Committee for not only my crown and sash, but also for my trophy that is pretty much as tall as me. House of Stones for my gorgeous charm bracelet, Jacque Peters Photography for my fun photo shoot, Marks Place for my hair products, Quaker Cinema for tickets and a t-shirt. (I got to go see a star is born!) Planet Fitness for all my workout supplies. First Stop Signs for my magnets. McInturf Realty for my umbrella. Finally, Jen Horner for my beautiful flowers.
As my reign comes to an end I’d like to wish the new queen and her first attendant the best of luck. Enjoy every moment because this will be an experience of a lifetime.
